Quotable Friday

702 park project - quotable friday - happier

Man, it’s been a big week. I can’t wait to share with you the things I have in store for the next few months. I’m definitely putting my word of the year to use!!

On a different note, if you haven’t discovered Happier (where this week’s quote came from), I would highly recommend checking it out. It gives me my much needed daily dose of optimism, gratitude, and inspiration.

Stay warm and dry this weekend, friends! Happy Friday!

Hillwood Estate – Part 2

Did you enjoy Part 1 of the Hillwood Estate tour yesterday? If you missed it, click here to see the exterior and first floor of our tour of Hillwood Estate in Washington, DC.

I’ll give the same disclaimer that I gave for Part 1 of the tour, just in case: I took a gazillion pictures. And by gazillion I mean like 300. No joke. This place was amazing. However, all photos were taken with my iPhone, so the quality may not be top notch. Anyway, here we go.

Hillwood Estate – Part 1

A few weeks ago, Charles and I took a little road trip up to Washington, DC with his parents. My father-in-law’s cousin passed away in August, and just 13 days later, his wife followed. They lived out west and I only had the pleasure of meeting them once, but let me just say…witnessing a funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery is an incredibly moving experience.

Since we already had to be in DC, we decided to stay the weekend and made a trip to one of my new favorite places, the Hillwood Estate.

Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to Post & General Mills cereal brands and DC socialite, bought Hillwood in 1955. The estate sits on 25 acres in northwest DC, and the house is filled with Marjorie’s favorite decor styles: 18th Century French and Imperial Russian. She quickly decided that she wanted to use her home as a museum to inspire and educate the public. You can read more about the house here.

Interior Design Trend: Metallic Sconces

A good friend of mine recently bought a house that had sconces in almost every room. I’ve never thought too much about sconces, mainly because wiring the electrical through our plaster walls could cause a few problems. But now I can’t get them out of my head! I’d love to add a couple above our buffet in our dining room, and maybe in our master bedroom too.
