Hello 702 Park Project readers!  I’m Molly of Dreams in HD, and I’m extremely honored to be posting on Sarah’s lovely blog today.  Sarah and I share similar passions for old homes and interior design, so today I wanted to share with you some of my favorite rooms inspired by my favorite hotel – The Greenbrier Resort.  My mom and I will be visiting The Greenbrier this weekend for Mother’s Day, and I am thrilled to be able to spend four days in the beautiful and historic hotel {it was built in 1778!}

The Greenbrier was decorated by famed interior designer Dorothy Draper and remains one of her finest works.  Inspired by the resort’s bold prints, vibrant colors, and southern charm, I have pulled together some of my favorite rooms that have a slightly more subdued take on Draper’s “modern baroque style” {read: arched doorways, tufted furniture, unique wallpapers, and bright color palettes}.  Personally my favorite room is the last…how gorgeous is that orchid velvet sofa?!

If you’d like to see photos from our trip, feel free to visit my blog, Dreams in HD.  You can also connect with me on Bloglovin’Instagram, FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest.  A very big thank you to Sarah for having me guest post today!

Room by Room Recap – Dining Room

Happy Cinco de Mayo, amigos!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Today I’m continuing the Room by Room Recap series with the dining room.  To be honest, this is one room that had to get A LOT worse before it got better.  The 70’s wallpaper and matching pea green trim was a little more than we could handle.

We love the new crisp white trim, but are still trying to decide on a wall color for this room.  I originally wanted to go with wallpaper above the chair rail (and still do, eventually), but let me tell you…wallpaper is ‘spensive!! So paint it is!

Take a look…

What we’ve finished

  1. Repair plaster walls and ceiling
  2. Repair/replace broken storm windows
  3. Repair window ropes
  4. Clean tile fireplace
  5. Remove wallpaper
  6. Prep and prime walls and ceiling
  7. Prep, prime, and paint trim and pocket doors
  8. Paint fireplace inlay and cover
  9. Stain trim around fireplace floor tiles
  10. Repair and clean existing chandelier

What’s left

  1. Refinish floors
  2. Paint walls or hang wallpaper
  3. Replace mismatched fireplace tiles.

I’m still trying to decide on a paint color, but I think I want to go with something vibrant.  The foyer is off white, so I’d like the dining room to really stand out when you walk in.  I’m also considering doing some sort of stencil in there.

I found this runner at HomeGoods and fell in love with it! I’d like to try to pull a color from there for the walls.  I also picked up a matching table cloth to make a few pillows for the chairs we plan to put in the bay window.

Lastly, I want to change out the rug, and add drapes and more furniture.  I particularly want a large buffet for the long wall.  We have also been meaning to add in a leaf or two to the table, but just haven’t gotten around to it.  It’s looking a little small without them! You can find more of my dining room inspiration here.

The figures…this room is 17′ 8″ x 15′ 9″ with 11′ ceilings and 3 windows. There are 4 interior doors, including 2 pocket doors, and 1 fireplace.

{Check out the Room by Room Recap of the formal living room, den, and den bathroom, too!}

UPDATE: We painted the dining room a color that you’ll never expect! See the reveal here!

Quotable Friday

It’s here! We are finally closing on our mortgage today and I couldn’t be more ready!! We’ve been dealing with a construction loan for almost a year now (357 days to be exact), which was definitely the right decision, but I’m ready to be finished with it.

Our house is far from complete.  There’s still PLENTY to do and I don’t think that we will ever truly be finished, but I’m excited for the hubs and I to just settle into normal life…whatever that is.

Thank you all so much for following along with us as we’ve made our dream a reality. It really means the world.

Have a lovely weekend!

A Vibrant English Country Home

With all this weather we’ve been having here in eastern NC and the official move into our house a couple weeks ago, my internet access at home has been somewhat limited.  So I haven’t been able to upload and edit as many pictures as I’d like.  Bear with me, and I’ll be back soon to resume the Room by Room Recap series.

Today, I wanted to share one of my absolute favorite interiors.  To be honest, English Country (and French Country and Country Country for that matter) isn’t really my style.  But there’s something about the way this designer marries a bit of English with a bit of Country with a whole lot of elegance!

Gorgeous, right?!  That foyer….I want it!  I love the use of vibrant colors that don’t overwhelm.  It’s just the perfect balance.

For those of you wondering…No, I don’t speak Spanish.  I found this house in a post by one of my very favorite blogs, House of Turquoise.  If you don’t follow Erin’s blog, you really should.  The interiors and exteriors that she features are nothing but stunning!!

A Big Thank You!

Y’all continue to amaze me.  I’m so humbled by everyone’s kind words and loyalty to this blog and our project.  It really just started as a way to share our home restoration with family and close friends, but it has really evolved into something I truly love.

Yesterday was the first time I had over 1,000 views in one day, and I was blown away.  I know to a lot of you pro bloggers that just a drop in the bucket, but it was a major milestone in my book.  So thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing in this experience with us!
