Friendly Features Vol. 2 – Lee Gaylor House

To say that I have some very talented family and friends would be an understatement. It seems that all of my friends have a knack for something…painting, drawing, designing, decorating, cooking, baking. So what do you do when you’re a blogger and you have such brilliant friends? You blog about it, of course!

Today I’m sharing a house that I’ve come to love dearly…my in-laws’ house! They have a gorgeous Dutch Colonial Revival house built in 1922.

Obviously the house holds a great sentimental value to my husband, who lived in the house from birth until he left for college. To me though, it holds a slightly different sentimental value.

Without even meaning to, we’ve followed almost exactly in Charles’ parents’ footsteps. We got married in the middle of law school, moved back to Charles’ hometown, and restored an historic home from top to bottom. My in-laws actually lived in the house we live in now when they spent about 2 years restoring this property, and Charles was born just 2 weeks after they moved in. (You can read more about our crazy twisted family tree and home ownership here!)

So let’s have a look…

The street recently underwent a revitalization, so now there’s a beautiful brick sidewalk and new light posts. My mother-in-law is an avid (and talented!) gardener, and the grounds are magnificent. There’s a rose garden in the back, and even a small garden where a tennis court used to be. Charles’ parents threw us an amazing garden party here when we were engaged, and it’s still one of my favorite nights of all time.

There’s a garage with an apartment above in back of the house, which also includes a utility room and bathroom. As you can see, the yard is perfectly manicured…I’m trying to recruit my mother-in-law to our backyard! :)

Isn’t it beautiful?! It’s a great house for entertaining, both inside and out.

If you enjoyed this tour, check out the Paul Borden House that’s currently for sale. The 1920 craftsman bungalow is a blank slate inside and just waiting for someone to come and complete the job!
