One Room Challenge – Stairs & Hall – Week 3

It has been a crazy couple of weeks around here! First, we got hit with Hurricane Matthew, followed by record flooding. Schools were out for almost 2 weeks and many in our community are still without power or a place to call home. Thank to those of you who contacted me and donated…it really means so much!

Last week, Charles and I took a rare vacation and made our way up the Outer Banks. It was a much-needed break…but more on that later.

I know it’s not the official ORC day, but I just wanted to catch you up on our progress to transform the stairs and hallway.

One Room Challenge – Stairs & Hall – Week 1

It’s here! It’s here! I’ve been waiting for the One Room Challenge to start for months, especially since missing the Spring challenge. So settle in…this is gonna be a long one!

If you’re not familiar, the One Room Challenge is an event hosted by Linda at Calling It Home and House Beautiful where 20 designers make over a space from start to finish in just 6 short weeks. You can catch those designers each Wednesday, and the rest of us link up on Thursdays. I did my first Challenge last Spring and my second last Fall.

For this challenge, I’m going to be making over….drum roll…our stairs and upstairs hall!

How To Re-Screen a Door

A front door is an important part of the first impression that your house gives. When we decided to paint ours red, I was so happy with the extra pop that it gave to our curb appeal. But because we hardly ever come in and out of this door, we’ve kind of neglected it. So a few weeks ago, we decided to finally finish up that paint job and fix the screen that was quite the eye sore.

How To Prioritize a Big Renovation

Back in February, I spoke at the Downtown Raleigh Home Show about our massive historic restoration. It was a great experience for me to get better at public speaking, and share some of what I had learned. Plus, it fell right in line with my word of the year: fearless!

I’ve been meaning to share about that experience, but it just kept getting pushed to the back burner. So when Personal Capital contacted me about sharing more about how we prioritized our to do list and our budget, I figured it was the perfect time to share more.
