Easy Custom Blinds with Levolor and Lowe’s

A couple weeks ago I shared our $30 laundry room makeover. I had never really considered stacking our washer and dryer, but for us it actually works really well. This room is so much more organized and functional now, but there’s still just one problem: our huge window that allows anyone and everyone to see into our laundry room.

Because all of our windows are so large, we’ve had to order custom (read: expensive) blinds a room at a time. We’ve had to search high and low for blinds that are big enough; but even when we’ve found them big enough, we’ve had no way to cut them to our actual needed size.

So I was thrilled to find that Levolor for Lowe’s makes it so easy.  I just went online to the Lowe’s site, found the Levolor size that was big enough, and ordered. The best part? Lowe’s will ship your order to your local store for FREE! Yep, free.

Just two days later, our blinds were ready for pickup. We headed to Lowe’s, where all I had to give was my last name and telephone number. I had already paid online, so it was a smooth and easy buying experience. Davonta at Lowe’s was even nice enough to give me a pose!

After picking up our blinds at customer service, we headed to the blinds aisle and found the Levolor blind cutting machine. The employee that cut our blinds was so helpful, but asked that I not share his name.

I’ve never seen this machine in action, and honestly didn’t know what to expect. Our man plugged our desired width into the computer, loaded the blinds into the cutter, and pushed start. About a minute later we had our custom blinds. It was that simple. I kind of expected the cut edges to be a little rough, but they were perfectly smooth and any dust had even been brushed off. Oh yeah, did I mention that all of this cutting is free at Lowe’s?

If you’re looking for quality custom blinds at a great price, look no further than Levolor blinds. Be sure to come back next week to see the finished product in our laundry room!

This Week’s Links

Happy first day of February! Are you watching the Superbowl tonight? Who are you pulling for? As an NC State grad and Russell Wilson lover, I have to pull for the Seahawks. Let’s go Seattle!!

Y’all. The internet was good last week! Like really good. It was so hard for me to narrow down my favorite links, so I’m sharing just a few more than usual. Enjoy!

Do you have any nude art in your home? It’s always been a little racy for my taste, but I’m loving Reagan Geschardt’s tasteful pieces.

I apologize to all of my parent friends, but this is just too good.

Last Year’s Snow Day

Just popping in to share this #tbt photo from one year ago today.

Brrrr! Right now in eastern NC it’s about 38º, and the high today is about 50º. So I don’t think there’s any chance of a repeat this week.

This January I’m just glad that our soffits are no longer wide open, and our house is warm and cozy. I hope everyone, especially my friends in the northeast, are staying warm!

Historic Southern Homes: Swan House

The next stop on the Historic Southern Homes tour is Swan House in Atlanta, GA. Behind the iron gate, this 28-acre estate was built in 1928 by architect Philip Trammell Shutze. The house was originally built for a family that had made their money in cotton, among other investments, but was bought by the Atlanta Historical Society in 1966.  As if this ginormous house left something to be desired, you can also find lavish gardens on the property, full of fountains, pools, terraces, and rose gardens.

Guest Bedroom Update

We finally got around to finishing our second guest bedroom last week. It only took us 9 months.

When we started our restoration, that guest bedroom (called the Bear Room) looked like this.

Then, after a lot of work and A LOT of plaster repair, it looked like this.

And then we moved all of our stuff, and this room became the dumping grounds of the house.

Trust me, it got even worse than that.

Over Christmas break and MLK weekend, we worked really hard to get this room back in shape. We officially unpacked our last box on Monday, January 19, 2015!

And now, it looks like this.

There’s still a few things that need to change. For one, the bed is a double and the Trina Turk comforter is a queen. We just threw it on there because we had it, but I think I want a white quilt/coverlet instead. It’s impossible to find non-custom drapes that are long enough for our 9′ tall windows, so I think I’ll end up adding a colorblock panel to the ends of these. And we desperately need a rug. But all in all, this room has come a very long way and I’m happy to finally be out from under the black cloud that was the room full of boxes!

This was a huge project. I recommend talking to professionals if you are considering any kind of home remodels such as this one – especially when the project is as extensive as  this one! SHS Roofing says, “When planning a home remodel, speak with the contractor during all phases of the process. Communication is critical in order to keep tabs on exactly what is happening during a remodel.”

A few sources… the paint color is Fresh Cut by Glidden. The bed is a hand-me-down. The dresser is a ReStore find that I refurbished. The nightstand is actually 2 accent tables from Target, on clearance for $6.49 each. The curtains are from TJ Maxx. The lamp was a yard sale find. All of the photos are ones I took on our honeymoon. The monogram canvas was a gift from my cousin Mary. And just about everything else can be found in my shop, including the brass etagere
