DIY Double Hanging Boxwood Wreath

Spring may only be one week away, but it snowed here yesterday. In eastern North Carolina. Seriously. #wtf. But despite the blustery weather, I’m getting ready for spring! And that starts with my front door.

Y’all know I have a black thumb and will opt for lifelike artificial plants whenever possible. I’ve been looking for the perfect boxwood wreath, but they all seem to be too small for our large front door. Then I had an idea…why not use two?

I liked the idea of front door decor that looks a little different, and being able to change out the ribbon with the seasons seems fun. So I picked out this preserved boxwood wreath set and went to town! I love how vibrant the green is, plus they are weather proof, which is perfect for the front door.

Before we begin, I just have to give a shout out to my friend Elva at Green Thumb Florist for helping me make this wreath and teaching me to tie a bow (more on that later!). She makes it look so easy!

Ok, here we go…

Step 1 – Measure the distance you want your wreaths to hang apart.

Step 2 – Wire the wreaths together, then measure out enough ribbon to cover the wire in between them.

Step 3 – Measure out enough ribbon to cover your wreath hanger and to create a “tail” at the bottom.

Step 4 – Tie your bow and attach it to the top piece of ribbon with wire.

Step 5 – Hang it on your door and enjoy!

This wreath was super simple to make, and will be fun to change out with the seasons. I may even add a few flowers to the wreaths closer to Easter for an extra pop of spring color.

Stick around…soon I’ll be sharing some tips on how to tie a bow! (It includes a video, if you’re into that sort of thing.)

If you’re looking for a lifelike silk plant, check out Commercial Silk. They have many artificial outdoor plants, hedges, and topiaries that stay green all year long! I’ve been thinking about plants for our front porch, so I may have to order a few from Permaleaf! They are weather friendly and, once again, no maintenance.

Are you ready for spring?

  1. Wreaths make beautiful decorations year-round ;) A metal wire frame is the most versatile support for wreaths, by the way. And, of course, you can pick your favorite greenery, dry flowers, and herbs.
