One Room Challenge – Week 4

Welcome to week 4 of the One Room Challenge! In just 2 short weeks I’ll be sharing the final reveal of our two-story back porch makeover!

ORC-LP-250x183

Last week I shared the design plan for each of the two porches, and I’m ashamed to say that not much has happened since. It’s ok though…I work better under pressure. :)

Anyway, here’s a look at the freshly painted porches (and some good ol’ NC pollen).

Here’s what’s on this week’s to do list:

  1. Scrub the porches to get rid of the nasty pollen residue
  2. Paint the doors red
  3. Hang curtains

I’ve been putting off painting the doors because I’m just not sure what I want to do. The upstairs doors are easy; they are mostly like the front doors with a solid wood interior door and an outside screen door. But I’m just not sure about the downstairs doors. We have a solid wood door on the inside, but the outer door is a metal storm door. I was considering painting it with a Rustoleum paint, but I’m just not sure how well it will hold up to the elements. Do you have any thoughts that might help?

My next list is the things I have yet to acquire:

  1. Large seating for upstairs (I’d love a retro metal glider, but it may be a rattan love seat or bamboo sofa)
  2. Lighting for the downstairs porch
  3. Hanging baskets for plants
  4. A rug for the downstairs porch
  5. Wall decor

I’m feeling pretty indecisive about what I want to hang on the walls. I was in Kirkland’s the other day and saw this mirror that I liked, but I’m worried about the metal rusting. In fact, I’ve seen a lot of metal mirrors that I like but have the same reservation.

  1. oh sarah… this is going to be so magical when it’s finished! i think rustoleum (oil, for sure) would hold up for a metal door. and since the mirror will be covered, you could probably use rustoleum on it as well. i just sold a plastic mirror that had a super fun wicker-look to it. maybe there’s something similar out in the world just waiting for you to find it!? if time weren’t an issue… ha.

  2. Fantastic progress!! All that fresh paint! The pollen will be gone eventually ( everything is yellow here in Atlanta even with the rain!!) I have a big screened porch and I have some metal furniture and accessories on it – every few years you have to repaint with Rustolem but it’s a chance to change up accessory colors every so often, doesn’t take that long and I enjoy the items on my porch. Just go into it knowing items won’t last forever without touch ups!! Just like inside the house – LOL!!

  3. I have been searching the internet all day looking for a mirror like that. I cannot believe I just click on your link and there’s what I need…nice! I actually have never been to a Kirklands, and didn’t even know we had them in Minnesota, but apparently we do. May need to take a little trip over there. Thanks for the link. Hope it might work in our powder room!
