DC Bound

Hey strangers! I hope y’all had a great 4th of July and got to spend some time relaxing with family and friends. We sure did!  And thanks for bearing with me as I took a little blogging break last week.  I’m feeling quite refreshed and have some exciting updates to share with you later this week!  But first, a quick question…

The Mr. and I are very excited to be taking a quick little getaway to DC soon, but I need your help!  Where should we eat?  Where should we drink?  Where should we play?  What should we see?

We’ve already nailed down where we’re staying thanks to AirBNB (Georgetown, if you must know).  So now I’d love to hear your tips and must-do’s for the capital.  We’ve seen all the monuments and major attractions, but I haven’t been to DC as an “adult” and would love your suggestions on bars, restaurants, night life, and such.

Also, I’m totally considering a blow out from here while I’m there.  I’ve been dying to try it, especially since there’s not one in all of NC.  Thoughts?

  1. There is a good Italian restaurant we like to go to when we’re in DC to see David’s Mom. Can’t remember the name but I’ll ask him & get back to you. All the museums are great. One that is fun & different is the Spy Museum.

  2. My favorites to eat at were Jaleo and Oyamel which are tapas (small plates) restaurants. SO GOOD. And surprisingly, the American Indian Smithsonian Museum’s food is soooo good. A local told us about that one and we’re so glad, otherwise we wouldn’t have even thought to eat there. Teaism (a tea shop with a little bit of food) was amazing as well, and there are several places all over DC. My favorite cupcake shop was Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle. We’ve tried a lot of cupcake places, and this is still by far our favorite that we’ve ever been to. And, regarding museums – you can’t go wrong. My favorite of the Smithsonians are the Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum. Spy Museum (not Smithsonian) is great, too. And I loved visiting Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, and the National Cathedral. To see all of the monuments, we rented a bike instead of walking the whole time. We saw all the monuments in less than 3 hours instead of the whole day or more that it would take walking. Plus, you get to save your feet a whole lot of pain.

Sorry about the novel!! Hehe. Hope it helps!

  3. Book a bus tour to see all the landmarks. My husband and friends did this last summer and it was the best money we ever spent. We didn’t have to trudge up and down city in the heat, but instead were bused to each monument in an air conditioned vehicle. We were lucky too in that the bus made many stops and gave us time to go through each landmark and take a ton of pictures.

    Have fun!
