30 Before 30 – The Final Cut

This Saturday I turn 30. That’s a weird sentence. Getting older has never really been a big deal to me because most of my friends are older, but 30 seems kind of big. I guess because it’s one of those milestone birthdays that you picture your whole life. Where will I be at 30?

While my life might not look exactly like I imagined (far from it actually), I’m pretty happy with where I am and am looking forward to the next decade!

Three years ago, on my 27th birthday, I decided to create a list of 30 things I wanted to do before I turn 30. I gave an update on my 28th birthday, and another on my 29th. With only a few days left to go, here’s the list today…

 1.  Attend a blogger conference
Did this a couple years ago…read about it herehere, and here!
2.  Attend more events at our local theater
3.  Be free of all credit card debt
We’ve been on the cash diet for 16 months now and it has really paid off! (Pun intended.) After we paid off credit card debt, we decided to stick to our new “lifestyle” of living frugally, and to be honest, we haven’t noticed that we’ve been missing out on much. I would highly recommend it!
4.  Become a better photographer.
I’ve made some progress, but still have far to go.
5.  Build a wine cellar in the basement
Not so much the building something permanent part, but we have collected a few dozen bottles that we now store in the basement. (Oh how I miss wine!!) Hoping to build some boxes like this soon.
6.  Buy a new car
I got Mickey the Lincoln last December and could not be happier!
7.  Convert the garage into a useful space
8.  Create a 365 book: a photo from each day for a year
Tried it. I just didn’t have the time or energy. Maybe 40 before 40?
9.  Cut down our Christmas tree in the mountains
10.  Eat more vegetables
Slowly but surely. I have a new found love for brussel sprouts, but I still can’t get behind broccoli or kale. Thank goodness for prenatal vitamins that get Baby Charlie all he needs!
11.  Finish the laundry room with cabinets and shelves
We’re still on the first step in the process, but that’s something.
12.  Get into a consistent workout routine
With baby on the way and the weather finally cooling off, I get in a walk just about every day, and try to hit the gym a few times a week.
13.  Get our house as organized as possible
Thanks to help from my mom, I tackled a lot of this last year. But baby has definitely made this a necessity! My nesting urges kicked in and I’ve tackled all of the closets in the house. Next up: the attic and the kitchen.
14.  Go to a pro football game
15.  Have a kid
So this won’t happen by the time I’m 30, but I am so glad that we waited until we were ready to jump on this train. The timing just feels right!
16.  Have more date nights with my husband
17.  Help organize a large scale charity event
The Herring Hulse Designer Showcase Home
18.  Learn to arrange flowers
19.  Learn to make curtains for our house
20.  Learn to mow the grass
Honestly, why is this on my list? I enjoy the fact that mowing is Charles’ job!
21.  Learn to shoot a handgun
            A fun Father’s Day adventure!
22.  Lose that certain amount of weight
It was 60 pounds pre-baby, and so far I haven’t gained much with the little nugget. We’ll see how I feel in 3 months!!
23.  Make a cleaning schedule and stick to it
Finally caved and hired a cleaning lady. Best. Money. Ever. Spent.
24.  Refinish a big piece of furniture
25.  Spend more time at the beach house
26.  Start a monthly dinner club with friends
27.  Start a new business
            Oh hey!
28.  Take a photography or art class at the community college
29.  Take a road trip to nowhere in particular
Our little tour of the Outer Banks with no set plans was perfect!
30.  Tour a winery
Biltmore! (Did I mention I miss wine?!)

There you have it. I know I won’t get to everything on this list, but that’s not really the point. If you only ever create goals that you know are easily achievable, how can you grow and test your limits?

Cheers to 30!

What’s on your to-do list? (You can check out my bucket list here!)
