Quotable Friday + A Life Lesson

702 park project - buddha quote

Earlier this week, Charles and I attended the visitation for a neighbor and friend who passed away suddenly. As we were leaving it started pouring rain, so we decided to hang out on the porch (pictured above) for a few minutes to wait for the summer shower to pass.

He had invited us for drinks on the porch several times since we moved to town, but we always had a conflict. And when we were free, we didn’t think to take he and his wife up on their offer. Standing on that porch, we both became very aware of the fact that that will never happen now. My heart immediately felt heavy with regret.

You see, we put things off because we think there will be time for them later. But the truth is, there may not be. So hug your loved ones, spend time with those you care about, and always accept an invitation for drinks on the porch.

702 park project - michelle obama speech

Don’t worry, this is not a political post. I know that most of you visit the blogosphere for a short reprieve from the grim world around us, especially in an election year. But some things are too important not to share.

Michelle Obama KILLED it on Monday with her speech. I had tears in my eyes just watching it. No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, you have to appreciate her heartfelt remarks and her conviction to speak the truth. This quote is not simply a lesson in politics. It’s a lesson in life…Always take the high road. Be kind. Build others up instead of tearing them down…What a different world we would live in if we only heeded these words.
