6 Tips For Entertaining At Home

I’ve always loved entertaining. One of the reasons I fell in love with our house was that it has great bones for large parties. There are no real hallways in our American Foursquare…just large rooms that are all connected. Since moving into the house, I’ve hosted quite a few shindigs, from baby showers to girls’ nights to birthday parties and more, and I’ve learned a few things.

Hosting an event is fun, but it’s also a lot of work. Forget having to take care of food, decorations, invitations, etc…you also have so make sure your house is spick and span! Luckily, I generally have help from a few friends and the hubs, which makes things much easier!

Historic Southern Homes: Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

It’s been a while since our last Historic Southern Home tour! Today I’m sharing an estate that’s just a little different than my usual antebellum plantation…and while I don’t always consider Miami (or Italian style in general) all that Southern, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share Vizcaya with you.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, once known as Villa Vizcaya, was built by businessman James Deering in the early 20th century…it took about 9 years to complete. Deering and designer Paul Chalfin actually traveled to Italy to learn more about the Italian Renaissance architecture style before bringing the style home to Miami. Deering employed three architects for the construction: one for design, one for actual construction, and one for the landscape and gardens.

Settle in, because this one is a jaw-dropper.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

This year is flying by! It’s already Easter?! When did that happen? Unlike many families, we don’t really have a set Easter tradition. Sometimes we go to the beach with Charles’ family and sometimes we do church and traditional Easter brunch with mine. Do you have an Easter tradition?

Since it’s officially spring, I’ve been getting the house ready for Peter Cottontail. For our dining room table, I wanted something bright and cheerful, with lots of pink, white, and gold of course. Take a look!
