Blog Milestone: 100th Post!!

It’s hard to believe that this first post was 100 posts ago!  It’s even harder to believe that there have been over 6,000 views since then!  To those seasoned bloggers this is probably about a days-worth of views, but as a new blogger, I’m happy with those results.  I feel very humbled that so many people are interested in our “little project.”  Thank you for reading and for all your support and feedback.  Keep it coming!!

I feel like I have learned so much through this process already…about myself, about blogging, about being a homeowner, about working with contractors, about restoring a very old house.  The list could go on and on.  Thanks for sharing in the experience with me!  Here’s to the next 100 posts! :)

PS- stay tuned for more updates later in the week.  The roofing, carpentry for the back porches, and bathroom reno are all getting started this week!!

The Remedy House Grand Opening!

It’s official….The Remedy House will be opening online on Monday, September 16!!

TRH

We hope you’ll take a look at some of the great finds we’ve picked up, as well as some of the items we’ve handmade and refurbished ourselves! We have mirrors, chalkboards, hardware, lamps, and a little furniture, just to name a few. Here’s how it will work…

Prior to September 16th, we will announce the time of the sale on Facebook. Be sure to like us so you don’t miss any updates! At the time of the sale, pictures of items, including a thorough description and dimensions (where applicable), will be posted to The Remedy House page. Since we will only be offering a limited number of items at a time, all sales will be first come first serve, and all sales are final. If you would like to purchase the item, simply comment “SOLD” on the photo, and include your email address.  (If you do not feel comfortable including your email address in the comments, you can send us a private message.)  We will then send you an email with a link to pay through PayPal. You will have 24 hours to make the purchase, or the item will go back on sale.  After the sale, we will hold the item for pickup for an  agreed-upon length of time.  We will have limited shipping on a  case-by-case basis, so feel free to inquire about a specific item.

We actually have quite a large inventory, but will only be hosting sales at certain times. You can expect at least one sale, containing about 7-10 items, per week…sometimes more.

We are incredibly excited to get The Remedy House up and going, and are so thankful for all the love and support we have received already. Please comment here, email me, or comment on our Facebook page if you have any questions! See you on the 16th!! :)

The Sunday Currently, #4

Sunday Funday is here again!  Friday night my parents came to check out the house (they haven’t seen it in a while) and we had a fun dinner and drinks, and yesterday we went to cheer on the Wolfpack in Raleigh!  Today, we are in Charlotte because Charles is cashing in my Christmas gift to him…the Mario Andretti Racing Experience.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :)

Currently:

Reading– All of the warnings and caveats in the paperwork for today.  Yikes!!

Listening– To the sound of the race track.

Thinking– About this corny joke I saw this week that I actually think is pretty hilarious.

7469531b02cf35c71338f30db4e05415

Wishing– We could move into our house already!! I’ll keep dreaming…

Hoping– To make a stop in Salisbury on our way home to check out my brother and his girlfriend’s new place.  (You can see her guest post from last week here.)

Wearing– Jeans and a tee–the old standard.

Loving– That pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks!  My favorite!!!

Wanting– This Michelle Armas painting that I’ve been in love with for a few years now.  I think it would look great over a mantle in one of the bedrooms or in the formal living room (with the pink couch!).

Needing– Some cute and comfy new flats.  My one really comfy pair is completely worn out.  But it’s not just for fashion; unfortunately it’s also for function.  Turns out I have to have surgery on my ankle next week…nothing serious, just an old injury that never healed properly.  So I will be in a cast for most of October and will need some good flats.  (Or should I say “flat” if it’s just one foot?)  Right now I’m loving these, these, and these.  Also, any creative ideas for wearing tights and/or skinny jeans with a cast? I live in tights/skinnies and boots in the Fall, so I’m trying to come up with a solution for that.

Feeling– Nervous and excited for this experience for Charles.  I’m pretty sure I’m looking like this right now:

Clicking– Through these desktop wallpapers at Design Love Fest.  There are so many good ones!  I think I’ll be changing up my background on the reg.  Check out what I have going on right now!

What have you been up to this weekend?

A Fashionable Home – 2013

Today marks the start of New York Fashion Week!  Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, the 8-day event will debut the Spring 2014 collections from all the top designers.  So, in that spirit, I thought I would take a few of the expected trends and apply them to decorating the home.

1.  Military– It doesn’t look like this trend is going away any time soon.  Made up mainly of greens, tans, and browns, this style is often very structured with details like ball buttons and gold accents.

This look can also be carried over to the home with the use of greens and other neutrals.

2.  Safari– Animal print is and always will be in style.  These prints are expected to flood the runway this week.

At home, animal prints can be used almost anywhere.  You can keep it simple and subdued, or go super bold.  I’m dying for an antelope print rug in the office!  And wouldn’t some safari animals like giraffes and hippos be adorable painted like my gold dollar store dinos?

3.  Crisp whites– Nothing says Spring like bright white.  You can do white on white, or pair is with a bold color or print.  Lots of options!

At home, there are few things I love more than an all-white kitchen.  But this trend can really work anywhere in the house.

4.  Bold floral prints– Forget the tiny flowers…we want the big stuff!

This trend is easy to work into bedding and artwork.  If you are brave enough, it can also work on furniture and wallpaper.  Just be sure you really love it!!

Primed and Ready

I hope y’all had a fun holiday weekend!  Ours was great, other than a little game-day sunburn!!  But the Pack won, and we got to go to the beach, so no complaints here! :)

So, back to the house…

As of Friday, the entire interior has received at least one coat of primer!  In most places, 2 or 3 coats.  And when I say the entire interior, I mean walls, trim, and ceilings.  The difference is absolutely amazing!! It doesn’t even look like the same house.  Now it is just a huge blank canvas for us to add our touch to.

If you can’t really tell a difference, compare the doors and fireplaces to the walls.  The walls used to be the same color.

Pretty incredible, right?

Up next: the roofers are supposed to start this week.  After they finish, the carpenters can get back to repairing and replacing the exterior woodwork.  The electrician is just about finished with rewiring and installing new outlets.  The inside will get a final coat of tinted primer in a few weeks.

Right now I’m working on master bathroom designs.  Charles and I went over to the house to get some exact measurements yesterday, so I’m going to play around with a few ideas and try to figure out the best layout for the bathroom.  I’ll definitely be sharing our plans with you once we have it nailed down.  In the meantime, you can check out some of my favorites on my Pinterest page.

The Sunday Currently, #3

Happy Sunday! I hope your weekend is going well.  We have tomorrow, Labor Day, off so we are at the beach right now.  Which means I’m keeping this post short and sweet.  I wrote my Sunday Currently a little ahead of time since I knew I wouldn’t be here, so forgive me if it’s not quite up to date.  Better early than never, right?  (I don’t think that’s how it goes.)

Currently:

Writing– Nothing! I’m on vacation!!

Listening– To what I’m sure will be the chatter of some of my favorite people…and the ocean.

Thinking– How thankful I am that I have one more day off this weekend!

Hoping– That cooler weather is coming soon.  I know, I know…I’m Fall-obsessed.

Loving– These tan booties.  Thanks to Chassity from Look Linger Love for turning me on to them!  Now if only I could afford them! ;)

Wanting– This set of tortoise shell bar tools from Ralph Lauren.  And while we’re at it, I’ll take these steak knives too!
