Following the Old Ones

I’ve always loved old homes, but owning one has taken that love to a completely different level.  They are so much work, and each older home has its quirks, but in my humble opinion, they are soooooo worth it!

Since we started our restoration, I’ve started following several “old home connoisseurs” and I thought I would share them with you here.

The last one is my personal favorite local to follow.  These places have so much potential, they just need someone to show them a little love!

Also, since it’s Fat Tuesday, be sure to head over to CocoCozy and check out some historic New Orleans homes! They are all so gorgeous!!

A Little Shopping

I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend!  We headed to the beach, expecting some cold and rainy weather, and it turned out to be beautiful!  60s and sunny! It was definitely just what the doctor ordered.  But we’re supposed to get hit with another ice/snow storm this afternoon.  Go home Mother Nature…you’re drunk.

While at the beach, we hit up a few antique and consignment shops.  I decided against the faux wood Draper dresser.  There’s nothing wrong with faux wood, but the drawers just felt a little flimsy.  There will be others!

I also fell in love with this midcentury modern orange sectional.  It doesn’t go with our house at all, and modern usually isn’t my style, but it was so pretty! And such a good price!

The Sunday Currently, #19

Happy Sunday! How is it March already?! Wasn’t it just New Year’s??

This week’s Currently is going to be a little different.  I’m actually writing this on Friday because Charles and I will be at the beach all weekend.  He took the bar exam this past week, and has been cramming non stop for the past few months, so we are both in need of a vacation! I’m looking forward to a quiet, relaxing weekend away with the hubs!

Currently:

Writing– A little more snail mail. I loved sending a little mail to a few of you last week.  If you signed up, don’t worry–your mail is coming soon!  You can find out how to sign up for my Snail Mail Project here.

Thinking– How happy I am that the bar exam is over and I can have my hubby back! That thing has been a dark cloud over both of us for too long.  Now we can finally get settled into life in the new house!

Hoping– My first sale makes it to its new home! I was so excited to ship this pretty piece off. I’m loving Hunter’s Alley!

Wearing– Skinny jeans, a sweater, and my favorite leopard scarf.  I also decided to take my nails back to neutral and went with one of my favorites: OPI Bubble Bath.

Loving– This adorable zebra desktop wallpaper by Fabulous K!

Wanting– One of Ashley‘s gorgeous paintings. I “discovered” her shop through Instagram (got to love Insta!) and am totally hooked.  I think I’ll start saving up for this beauty!

Needing– These four ingredient Nutella brownies.  Enough said.

Feeling– Overwhelmed by all the love and support y’all have shown me regarding the rebranding!  I absolutely love the new site, and I’m glad y’all do too! (Thanks again, Tasha!)

Clicking– This showcase of interesting features in different homes.  Would you like to have any of these in your home?

You can see what other bloggers are up to this Sunday over at Lauren’s blog.  And you can catch up on my past Currently’s here.

Have a happy week! :)

A Fresh New Look

You may have noticed that the blog got a face lift! (I hope you’ve noticed…we need to talk about your observation skills if you haven’t!) I’m so thrilled with the new look.  It’s totally my style–clean, simple, and sophisticated!

A huuuuuuuge thank you to Tasha at My Cute Lobster for her work in designing the new logo and the site!!  She was a pleasure to work with, and very patient with this tech dummy!

Where to Invest

Have you ever wondered which pieces in your home you should save on, and which you should splurge on?  In fashion, they always say to invest in the basics…a little black dress, work staples, black pumps, etc…and avoid splurging too much on the trendy stuff.  So is it the same when it comes to home decor?

In this post, designer Alexandra answers that question.  She suggests you splurge on your sofa in the living room, window treatments in the bedroom, and chairs in the dining room.

So far, our biggest decor splurges are (or will be) the wallpaper in the dining room, our window treatments, a new basket chandelier in the foyer, and our master bathroom.

Are there pieces you splurged on invested in in your home?  Where did you really try to cut corners?
