Confession: I’ve never owned a Christmas tree topper that I loved. I’m happy to see that in the days of anything goes, there are a lot more options for toppers, but I’m not totally sold on any of them.
Part of the problem in our house is that we put the Christmas tree right smack dab in the middle of our foyer. I absolutely love it! It definitely gives a wow factor when you walk in the door (and also it’s great because the rest of the house can be a mess but all you can see is the giant tree!). But it does mean that our tree has to look good from all sides, including the tree topper. FYI, I do plan to do at least a partial Christmas house tour later on the blog, but for today I just wanted to talk about this topic that has me on the fence.
There are tons of topper ideas out there, but they mainly fall into 4 categories…
Traditional Toppers
These are your stars, your angels, your snowflakes, etc. Growing up, we always had an angel on top of our tree. I’m more of a star person myself, but as I said, I haven’t found one I love yet.
Ribbons & Bows
For our tree, I think I’m leaning towards a bow. Or a few bows put together that look good from all sides with long streamers. The hard part is finding that perfect ribbon out of the 8 billion options that I will continue to love year after year.
Sprigs & Twigs
I really like this option too. I used to think that this was a more rustic look, which isn’t our style at all, but after seeing lots of more glam examples, my mind has been changed.
Naked Trees
Lastly, you can just leave the top of the tree alone. This is where we are right now. At first it seemed just wrong to not have a topper on a tree, but the more I look at it, the less it bothers me…as long as the rest of the tree is decked out!
What does your tree topper look like? Which style is your favorite?

Choosing the perfect Christmas tree topper can be a delightful yet daunting task, as it sets the tone for your entire holiday decor. Traditionalists often gravitate toward classic angel or star toppers, symbolizing hope and guidance, while modern enthusiasts might opt for unique designs like snowflakes, bows, or even whimsical characters to reflect their personality. The material of the topper also plays a crucial role—glass or crystal adds elegance and sparkle, while rustic wood or fabric complements a cozy, farmhouse aesthetic. Size matters too; a topper should harmonize with the tree’s height and fullness, avoiding overpowering or getting lost in the branches. For those embracing minimalism, a simple ribbon or LED light can create a chic, understated look. Personalization is another trend, with custom initials or family-themed toppers adding a heartfelt touch. Ultimately, the ideal topper should resonate with your style and holiday spirit, whether it’s a nod to tradition or a bold statement piece. With endless options available, the key is to let your creativity shine and make the tree uniquely yours
