My Newly Relocated Home Office

Remember this office? Well it is officially becoming the nursery for baby Charlie, so I had to make moves on finding another location for my home office. After kicking around a few ideas, we decided it made the most sense to make our formal living room into my office.

This room, while pretty, rarely got used and just seemed like a waste of space. Well today I’m excited to share that it has been converted! Take a look!

This room has come a long way in the past almost 5 years. Here’s what this room looked like when we bought the house…

(Don’t forget you can take our home tour here to see all the befores and afters!) And here’s a look at the room about 3 years ago when all we had was hand-me-down furniture and rugs that didn’t match at all.

This room has been trying to find its purpose since we moved in, and I think we’ve finally found it! I’m so excited with the new look and function.

After all the work I put into the One Room Challenge, the truth is I rarely used my office before this move. It just felt so far removed when it was upstairs. I love that I can look out the front of the house during the day and see what’s going on. Plus, it makes it very convenient to have clients over now that my office is right off of the foyer. I never hosted a client in my old office, but since moving it downstairs, I’ve already had two clients drop by for meetings. It just makes so much more sense.

I’m definitely still not finished with his room. I’d still like to hang floor-to-ceiling drapes, hang some more stuff on the walls, and get a new rug. But for now, I’m happy with the progress.

A few notes on sources…

The hanging light fixture is from the late 19th century and actually used to be gas-powered. It hung in Charles’ great-grandfather’s house and was brought here by his grandfather and turned into an electric fixture. (By the way, if you’re new to the blog, you may want to check out the story of how we came to own this family home.)

The framed Polo scarf behind my desk is one of my favorite things in the house. The scarf belonged to my Nanny, who was always fashionable and even did some modeling in her younger years. I love having a piece of her with me each day.

The pink velvet sofa was an estate sale find for $150! The gold etagere was a Habitat Restore find for $45. Sometimes you just have all the luck!

The desk is Ikea, the lamp is Pier 1 (old), the chair is Target (old), the rug is Kirkland’s (old), and the printer stand is a DIY marble table I made a few years back. The art on the mantel is Michelle Armas and Mary Ellis Design. And lastly, the paint color is a very pale pink called Morning Promise by Glidden.

A big thank you to my parents and in-laws for helping us get this room set up!! With me being pregnant and Charles being post-surgery and unable to lift anything, we literally couldn’t have done it without you. You four are the best!
